What is the Pensions Dashboard?

The Pensions Dashboard is a new online service backed by the UK Government. It’ll let people securely view all their pensions in one place, including their State Pension.

The dashboard will help employees find lost or forgotten pensions, understand how much they have saved, and plan more efficiently for retirement.

Pensions Dashboard benefits

This will be a transformative tool for pension holders and employers managing workplace schemes.

Improves trust in workplace schemes

Supports employee financial wellbeing

Increases employee engagement with pensions

What this means for you

Most employers don’t need to take action as we’re managing the connection of all Royal London contract based workplace schemes to the dashboard.

However, for trust based schemes, trustees must opt in for Royal London to connect on their behalf. You can find more about the trustee duties for the Pensions Dashboard on our customer site.

As of 27 May 2025, we're proud to announce that our pension policies are now successfully connected to the Pensions Dashboard, making us the fifth provider to reach this milestone ahead of next year's launch.

Frequently asked questions

No, employers don't need to do anything to connect to the Pensions Dashboard. But they do play a key role in ensuring their workplace pensions schemes remain compliant and key information is up to date, as well as raising awareness of the dashboard and its benefits for employees.

1. Contract based schemes

This is a workplace pension scheme arranged by an employer to provide retirement benefits for their employees.

These include:

  • Group Personal Pensions
  • Group Stakeholder Pensions

2. Trust based schemes

This is an occupational pension scheme set up by an employer to provide retirement benefits for their employees. The scheme is set up under trust with trustees appointed to run the scheme in the best interests of the members.

These include:

  • Defined Contribution pensions
  • Defined Benefit pensions
  • Hybrid schemes (a mix of Defined Benefit and Defined Contributions)

We encourage employers to help raise awareness of the Pensions Dashboard and support employees in understanding how to use it to track their pensions.

To help with this, you can share our Pensions Dashboard information page with your employees. It provides clear guidance on what the dashboard is, how it works, and what they can expect to see.

The Pensions Dashboard will be hosted by MoneyHelper, a government backed service. Users will access their pension information by logging into the site and verifying their identity using their Government Gateway credentials. This secure log in process ensures that only they can view their pension data.
